Interestingly, the same pattern of results was revealed for both target behaviours with the TPB variables of attitude, subjective norm, and PBC predicting intention (supporting H1); and intention, but not PBC, predicting behaviour (partially supporting H2).
Subjective norm (H4b: β 4b = 0.19, p < 0.05) moderately influenced purchase intention, which supported hypothesis H4b, attitude (β 5 = 0.54, p < 0.001) significantly and strongly influenced purchase intention, supporting hypothesis H5.
In contrast, perceived barrier (β=−0.064, p<0.05) was negatively associated with vaccination intention, supporting hypothesis 5.
Interestingly, subjective norm was the only direct measure not to perdict intention, supporting previous studies that proposed that subjective norm was the weakest explanatory variable of intention [ 31].
Perceived susceptibility (β=0.076, p<0.05), self-efficacy (β=0.172, p<0.001) and perceived benefit (β=0.254, p<0.001) were significantly and positively associated with vaccination intention, supporting hypotheses 3, 6 and 7.
However, perceived risk was not an independent predictor of screening intention, supporting the theory that despite being important in influencing CRC screening behaviour, it requires other mediating factors to have an effect [ 39].
