Each December a new group of about 60 music students from around the country (and abroad) participates in the New York String Orchestra Seminar, a 10-day marathon of intensive chamber-music coaching and orchestral rehearsals with senior professionals that culminates in two performances at Carnegie.
The New York String Orchestra, founded in 1969, is actually a training institute for young musicians from colleges, conservatories and high schools who are auditioned around the country and brought to New York during the winter holiday season for 10 days of intensive coaching in chamber music and the chamber orchestra repertory.
