The patients were in the study for an average of four years when investigators called a halt to the intensive blood sugar lowering and put all of them on the less intense regimen.
Although the second, main phase of the Intensive Blood Pressure Reduction in Acute Cerebral Hemorrhage Trial (INTERACT2) suggests the effectiveness of early intensive blood pressure (BP) lowering in improving functional recovery after ICH, the balance of potential benefits and harms of this treatment in those with decreased kidney function remains uncertain.
Therefore, so-called "intensive" blood glucose control with the use of insulin therapy may reduce brain glucose availability and potentially increase energy dysfunction or aggravate metabolic distress [63, 65 67].
