At its simplest encryption is all about transforming intelligible numbers or text, sounds and images into a stream of nonsense.
(The criticism carries down to some art writing of today, rightly chafing at work not intelligible without explanatory texts).

When scripts are represented using activity diagrams, both the text and symbols used should be intelligible.
