Baseline median fruit intake values in our study were also relatively high, with 1.8 to 2 pieces of fruit per day for the men and women, respectively.
However, the mean intake value for animal food in the control group of women was ~35% to 45% lower than the lactating women throughout the 3 mo studies (P < 0.0001 Table 2).
With regard to intake, values found in this study showed a significantly higher consumption by about 20% in goats than in sheep, and are within the mean of the range found by McCammon-Feldman et al. (1981) in their report of worldwide studies on goat intake.
The calorie and protein intake values provided in Table 3 indicate isocaloric and isonitrogenous intakes across the three groups, with no differences in effective volume.
To test for linearity the median intake value of each tertile of dairy intake was included in the Cox regression model.

A rough calculation based on intake values used or derived in this study indicates that drinking water could account for 3 μg/day of inorganic As (2 μg/L × 1.5 L/day), and rice for approximately 16 μg/day of inorganic As (160 g/day × 0.1 μg/g).
Mean daily intake values were compared with reported values in other countries and values observed in this study were found to be relatively higher [ 24, 39- 45].
Conclusions: The lead exposure to these infants through blood transfusion exceeds the acceptable daily intake values for lead and may result in unacceptably high post-transfusion blood lead concentrations.
