Your face becomes a gurning musical instrument, generating sounds and laser forms from the faces you muster like a club kid at closing time.
The equipment generates harmonic overtones -- multiples of a sound's fundamental frequency -- to give a singing voice more "presence" and depth.
Although a number of sound source separation methods [11 14] have been studied, most of them still focus on dealing with music performed on either pitched instruments that have harmonic sounds or drums that have inharmonic sounds.
The reason is because a harmonic onset exhibits spectro-temporal features that have been modelled as percussive sounds in the factorization process; (ii) it cannot effectively separate audio effects, e.g., a synthesizer can generate a harmonic sound that exhibits spectro-temporal features (e.g., the vibrato effect shows non-smoothness in time) which are not modelled in the factorization process.
Percussive sound pertains to drum instruments, whereas the harmonic sound pertains to pitched instruments.
Most musical instruments generate fundamental frequencies below 1 kHz [1] which points to the importance of preserving low frequency sound components for music perception.
Wearable devices belong to a larger family of instruments designed for generating digital sounds.
For all the methods evaluated, the main weaknesses of harmonic/percussive separation are the following: (i) It is not effective in separating harmonic onsets, that is, the transients of harmonic sounds played by harmonic instruments (e.g., the initial milliseconds of a note played by guitar) because they exhibit a percussive behaviour.
It uses weather patterns as the basis for generating sounds that react to prevailing weather conditions so the whims of the local atmosphere get harnessed in real-time, through some custom code, and turned into harmonic sounds, giving you an audio accompaniment to those foreboding clouds and high winds gathering ahead.
The stimuli included harmonic sounds and inharmonic sounds (produced by shifting some frequencies of a previously harmonic sound), and sounds with beating and without.
For example, most separation methods for harmonic sounds [11 14] cannot separate inharmonic sounds, while most separation methods for inharmonic sounds, such as drums [15], cannot separate harmonic ones.
