The INSAMP is an instrumentation amplifier that allows amplifying the difference between two signals.
Signals were amplified (×50,000) and digitised in two ways: (1) In nine cases (Rome and Berlin) we used a custom-made, 9 V battery-operated high-impedance amplifier (INA128 instrumentation amplifier, Texas Instruments, Inc., Dallas, TX, USA).
Data from this cohort were amplified and filtered at 1 250 Hz using a custom-made, high impedance amplifier (which had as its front end input stage the INA128 instrumentation amplifier, Texas Instruments Incorporated 12500 TI Boulevard Dallas Texas, USA) and recorded through a 1401 A-D converter (Cambridge Electronic Design) onto a computer using Spike2 software (Cambridge Electronic Design).
Typically, output signal from the WSB is conditioned (amplified) using an instrumentation amplifier (INA).
The voltage across the current-sense resistor was amplified with an instrumentation amplifier and read with a data acquisition board.
The voltage signal from the sensor was amplified by an instrumentation amplifier (Amp. 1) with a gain defined by resistance R1.
