We propose that Grander Challenges in global health involve how to build the systems, institutions, innovations, and human resource capacity and demand needed to sustain the delivery of effective strategies that improve health outcomes on a large scale.
Similarly, the themes for the 2013 Triple Helix Conference5 covered global challenges and growth opportunities, modes of coordination regarding innovation, innovative markets and networks, innovation-friendly financial institutions, interactive patterns in innovation systems, skills for innovation, innovation in the private sector, place-based innovations and local innovations systems.
Industry, on the other hand, has the mandate to produce wealth by transforming the knowledge or research output from academia and research institutions into innovations and commercialising the innovations on the market (Etzkowitz and Leydesdorff 2000).
