With the goal of avoiding these commitments fading into similar obscurity and a broader ambition of broadening the development discourse beyond a narrow focus on economic growth, a handful of high-ranking United Nations (UN) staff established and co-chaired a group of institutional experts to extract key targets from the Declaration and translate them into a free-standing category [ 19].

But university faculty are generally afforded more institutional recognition as experts in their field, which gives them more clout to set the student agenda.
Some examples of what the programme will do are: establish an institutional pool of experts for community mediation and problem solving, help schools foster inter-cultural values, work with parent-teacher bodies, award grants for local initiatives and support a major interfaith conference in May 2010.
