In the Adipocere Hall, there was Home's specimen of an instance of the conversion of a corpse into adipocere over the course of 21 years.
Acid precipitation may increase human exposure to several potentially toxic metals by increasing metal concentrations in major pathways to man, particularly food and water, and in some instances by enhancing the conversion of metal species to more toxic forms.
Of course, there is fossil fuel carbon that is used – for instance in the conversion of wood waste into dry pellets, and the oil used in the shipping and transport from America to Yorkshire.
Interestingly, when this same approach is applied to 39 MP genes, we find very few instances of gene conversion in either region (<10%) and no significant difference in the proportion of conversion events between the noncoding and coding regions (table 1).
This suggests at least some instances of partial gene conversion, whereby short gene conversion tracts have modified part of an AluYg6 insertion using an older Alu element as a template.
We next performed the 21del PCR on additional isolates from the various LCC and Haarlem lineages in order to determine whether the observed genotypes were cluster or lineage-specific and also to investigate any additional instances of gene conversion or recombination.
However, corrections for recombination events have been attempted in other studies in which coding sequences were decomposed into distinct functional domains (Rajalingam et al. 2004; Cadavid and Lun 2009), and some specific instances of gene conversion have been noted (Shilling et al. 1998; Graef et al. 2009; Abi-Rached et al. 2010; summarized in the Supplementary Material online).
A model such as we describe here could identify these instances of gene conversion statistically and on a genome-wide basis and, if applied to a group of related organisms, could provide a description of their extent and taxonomic distribution in nature.

More such shifts in metabolism were observed: for instance, the conversion of ornithine to putrescine decreased, and this was followed by a decrease of spermidine and spermine.
