Inspection pattern: for each tube, we distinguished whether the birds looked into it from one side or from both sides.
Inspection of patterns of expression for individual genes revealed a fraction of cells in which the gene is off, and a fraction of cells expressing the gene to varying levels (on).
On a visual inspection, promoter patterns from Arabidopsis thaliana and Drosophila melanogaster have a more narrow shape than those from Oryza sativa and Homo sapiens, which suggests a different distribution of point mutations between these species, resulting perhaps from a difference in nucleosome organization.
