Until recently, only farmers and processors had sought organic certification, which involves a review of purchasing and shipping documents and inspection of fields, crops and processing plants.
These systems and schemes set the levels of tolerance to soft rot and blackleg diseases based on the visual inspections of growing crops as well as on inspections of the harvested tubers after grading and dressing and before sale (Shepard & Claflin, 1975).
Imported flowers are a particular hotbed for invasive species, with more than 130 species of crop pests found on inspection.
This measure varies with kind of crop.
(4) Following the audit, it has been concluded that field inspections of seed-producing crops, sampling, testing and official post-controls of fodder plant and cereal seed are carried out appropriately, and satisfy the conditions set out in Annex II to Decision 2003/17/EC and the respective requirements set out in Council Directives 66/401/EEC 6) and 66/402/EEC 7).

They are increasingly used for goals as diverse as news gathering, aerial inspection of oil refinery flare stacks, mapping of the Amazonian rain-forest, crop spraying and search and rescue operations.
Experts cite such potential uses as the monitoring of agricultural crops, geologic and marine research, and the inspection of electrical transmission lines and oil pipelines.
(5) The Republic of Moldova has submitted a request to the Commission to grant equivalence to its system of field inspections of cereal seed-producing crops, vegetable seed-producing crops and oil and fibre plant seed-producing crops and to cereal seed, vegetable seed and oil and fibre plant seed produced and certified in the Republic of Moldova.
