Indeed, in Atlantic silverside and other fish species, temperature sensitive and insensitive populations that occupy different locations have been observed [ 1].
In addition, we reported in the bluegill sunfish Lepomis macrochirus the existence of two contrasted temperature-sensitive populations (in which the proportion of males increased with either increasing or decreasing temperature) as well as temperature insensitive populations ([ 12] and personal communication).
Interestingly, a lethal effect was also observed in the more immature CD34+CD38− TKI-insensitive population.
We measured cell soma diameters in cold-sensitive cells and observed an average value of 18.8±0.4 µm in the menthol-sensitive population and 19.5±1.1 µm in the menthol-insensitive population.
This results in the shear-limited population becoming more uniform than the shear-insensitive population.
Above this, the shear-limited population is more uniform than the shear-insensitive population, but also has a lower yield.
Results demonstrated that the mechanosensitive cell population required a certain minimum ECS flow rate in order to reach yields comparable to the shear-insensitive population.
We propose that ROS is a signal to initiate cell death in the ROS-sensitive luminal population, whereas the ROS-insensitive population is preserved, and that completion of clearing is maintained by a signal originating in the CD68+ luminal population.
We also note that, for a flow rate above the first critical value, the shear-enhanced population is always more spatially uniform than the shear-insensitive population for a given yield.
However, an ideal flow rate range could again be found, within which the mechanosensitive population is more uniform than the shear-insensitive population, and the yield has not yet been significantly compromised.
