Food insufficiency (lack of adequate food to meet daily needs) is one aspect of food insecurity, a complex phenomenon describing lack of access to sufficient quantity and adequate quality of food, and anxiety in procuring food. 2 Over half of all households in Rwanda are thought to be food insecure, many of which are headed by women.
