Every observation in our data set consists of input predictors and output variable.
Input predictors are usually independent variables, believed to have some predictive power over the dependent variable (predictand).
As with all regression techniques we assume the existence of a single output (response) variable and one or more input (predictors) variables.
Instead of the raw data set, here the factor scores obtained in the factor analysis were used as the input predictors.

PLS is a multivariate linear regression technique between an input (predictor) matrix, X, and an output response matrix, Y.
Finally, NPL scores (a measure of allele sharing used in non-parametric linkage analysis) could also be used as inputs (predictors) of the NN [ 25].
Neural networks are non-linear statistical data machine learning tools that use hidden layers of connections to model the relationship between inputs (predictor variables) and output (classification).
