One piece was the result of a printer malfunctioning and adding extra ink blobs to a stave – Cannell played it as it was printed.
The realization that the artist is not merely depicting places, but his own feelings, is brought home in "At Peace in Stone Cottage," in which the physical dwelling is almost invisible under a torrent of ink blobs.

When Mr. Lee's drawings conjure before you a soft, densely inked snowflakelike blob with feathery edges, or a pattern that recalls a distant constellation, or foliage, or even stones in a pool of clear, shallow water, it is hard not to be mesmerized.

The technique of the film is, as in all of Gallagher's work, contradictory: effortless – a blob of ink serves as an entry point – and arduous and labour intensive.
