An injunction giving powers to prevent gang-related violence in Salford has been granted to Greater Manchester Police following a spate of shootings.
The showdown has been brewing for weeks, since Britain's newspapers began reporting on the proliferation of so-called super-injunctions like the one given to Mr. Giggs — court orders forbidding news outlets from reporting even that they cannot report something.
These injunctions, which replaced Asbos, are given to children as young as 10, and recipients over the age of 18 risk being incarcerated for up to five years if they defy directives by doing things like "going to [their] local town centre" or "spending time with people who are known as trouble-makers".
In light of these endorsements, they say, a different interpretation must be given to those injunctions that suggest women must not speak.
