The importance of organising this vast set of data to make it easier to find any particular piece of information was recognised several decades ago, before the Internet era, when the Cambridge Structural Database (CSD) [1, 2], the Inorganic Chemistry Structural Database (ICSD) [3] and CRYSMET [4] were created.
The importance of non-judgemental attitudes and consistent, reliable information is recognised [ 21, 37].
Providing good patient information is recognised as an important part of enhanced or rapid recovery programmes [ 6].
In metabolomics, the importance of reporting standards, in other words minimal information checklists to ensure the reporting of the same core set of information, was recognised early and these were developed.
