Six months later, a technical team comprising staff with background training in information technology, public health, statistics, and monitoring and evaluation attended the DHIS2 training at the East Africa Academy in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
The workplace audit tool, developed originally in Canada by the team (comprised of experts in program evaluation, infection control, occupational health, information technology, public health and medicine), and refined from use in Ecuador and South Africa, was again adapted and workshops held to train occupational health and infection control practitioners from 7 countries across the Caribbean.
Disparate corners of the information technology world, from public search engines to private accounting companies that help track money laundering inside banks, are tackling the same problem.
"It's a future where anonymity can no longer be taken for granted — even when we are in a public space surrounded by strangers," says Alessandro Acquisti, an associate professor of information technology and public policy at Carnegie Mellon who directed the studies.
The bottom line is this: the only sustainable and broadly scaled successes at getting information technology to public health in poor countries have been commercial technologies.

Indirectly, the implementation of these technological tools promoted the interdisciplinary integration among teachers and students in the areas of information technology and public health in a Brazilian university.
