It is important to mention that these inferred periods of extinction are congruent with fossil data also indicating significant extinctions for the clade.

Finally, an inferred insertion period of Merrow, Garfield, and Conan postdated the radiation of two species where these transposons resided (supplementary fig. S5, Supplementary Material online).

When averaged in a 140 km wide corridor around the modern arc, phase velocities systematically increase from south to north at all periods by 0.15 0.2 km/s, a variation that strongly correlates with heat flow and inferred magmatic heat input (Fig. 4a).
