During our experimental anti-infective studies in vivo in mice [19] and rabbit [20] eye models, we recognized that apoEdp inhibited virus-induced corneal angiogenesis.
The chosen anti-infective study drugs exhibit a wide range of logP and PB (Table 1).
Lockhart et al. [ 25] showed in their infective endocarditis study on 195 patients that those with mean dental plaque and CI scores of 2 or greater were at 3.78- and 4.43-fold increased risk, respectively, of developing bacteremia.
For ultrastructural studies, infective doses of 10 oocysts of C. muris per animal were similarly prepared and inoculated.
For immunohistochemical and genetic studies, infective doses of 10 oocysts per mouse of three different strains of C. parvum were prepared as described previously (Certad et al., 2012; Certad et al., 2010a; Certad et al., 2010b; Certad et al., 2007) and were inoculated by oral-gastric gavage to 27 animals (IOWA: 20 mice, TUM1: four mice and the IIaA15G2R1 human isolate: three mice).
It can be synthesized chemically as sodium salt (Cl-HN-CH2-CH2-SO3-Na, NCT) [ 3] and has been applied successfully as a new broad spectrum non-antibiotic anti-infective in clinical studies to different body sites [ 4], for instance the eye [ 5], the outer ear [ 6], and skin ulcerations [ 7].
For studies involving infective L2 (i-L2), nematode-infected roots were collected at 12 hours post infection (h), 3 and 8 days post infection (d).
Previous studies on infective endocarditis caused by SAG have relied on phenotypic methods for identification.
4 A particular focus is on antibiotic prophylaxis before dental procedures, as oral streptococci have been implicated in between 18% and 65% of cases of infective endocarditis, although most studies suggest the proportion is closer to 35-45%.
It was found that PDC is essential during late liver stage development in mouse malaria species [ 16], whereas in Plasmodium falciparum, one of the human infective malaria species, recent studies suggest that PDC and also fatty acid biosynthesis activity are important for the development of infective sporozoites at the end of sexual development in the Anopheles vector [ 18, 19].
A recent study from the Netherlands on microbes isolated from bile after cholecystectomy [ 18] showed a predominance of Escherichia coli, followed by Klebsiella spp. and Streptococcus spp. Significantly, two studies on infective complications after open [ 18, 19] and laparoscopic cholecystectomy showed no correlation between positive bile culture and post-operative infection.
