The ineffective, outcome-based payment structure also constrained ASHAs' work output [ 43], since some ASHAs tended to focus more on those activities which attract payment, such as provision of contraceptives and facility-based deliveries, at the expense of other essential activities such as general health promotion activities at community level [ 6, 43, 49].
Furthermore, it remains unclear whether poor adherence is the reason for ineffective treatment outcome, or whether patients' poor adherence is the results of lack of immediate therapeutic benefits of PT treatment [ 28].
