Hospitals, schools and other nonprofit groups seeking tax-exempt financing through the state's 115 industrial development agencies received a reprieve from the State Senate on Monday.
Assemblyman Sam Hoyt of Buffalo, chairman of the committee with jurisdiction over the law, said renewal of the provision allowing industrial development agencies to issue bonds on behalf of nonprofits had become snarled in a broader debate.
Historically, New York's own industrial development agencies have issued tax-exempt bonds on behalf of the state's nonprofits seeking to raise money for new facilities and other projects.
