In comparison, greater enforcement effort and individually contracted performance payments – options that might otherwise have been considered credible choices – are predicted to perform poorly, with only negligible reductions in forest clearance.
However, housing and travel costs are greater for the MDs hired through bilateral agreement than for individually contracted MDs.
Strengthening the capacity of African universities is arguably a more sustainable strategy for developing the field of HPSR+A in Africa, than relying on training in high-income countries, and may also address the challenge of individually contracted research consultancies (Wight 2008).

Our objective in this research is to design individually rational contracts that coordinate the supply chain when the retailer faces inventory-level-dependent demand.
To account for different contracting regimes, we consider three market scenarios: (1) a liquid flexibility market where the energy retailer is a price-taker, (2) an opaque market where non-strategic customers will accept any individually rational contract offer and (3) a bi-level model with strategic customers optimally self-selecting into available contracts.
