"indirect quotation" is a correct and usable term in written English.
It refers to reporting someone's words without using their exact phrasing. It is also known as "reported speech." Example: She told me that she was too busy to attend the party. (indirect quotation) In this sentence, "She told me" is the reporting verb and "that she was too busy to attend the party" is the indirect quotation. This means that the speaker did not use the exact words the person said, but instead reported the general meaning of their statement.
