Two hundred ninety three employers (82.3% of 356) completed baseline data immediately before learning that 140 employers had been randomized to the evidence-based (EB) depression product presentation and 153 had been randomized to the usual care (UC) depression treatment quality indicator presentation.
We previously investigated the possibility of making a probabilistic or logical diagnosis in the absence of a diagnostic code by looking at groups of other indicators of presentation (e.g. tests, referrals, symptoms or prescriptions) [ 7].
For categorical presentations, indicator groups were established according to quintiles (for indicator bacteria), presence/absence (F+coliphage by CLAT) or at the median (F+ coliphage by SPOT).
Stratifying by clinical indicator disease, no presentations with AIDS defining illness were missed in either time period, whilst 8 of 9 blood dyscrasias were missed.
A set of decisions were reached on changing the profile template, indicator list, and presentation of specific charts (see Additional files 2 and 3 as examples of profiles in the 2010 report and the 2012 report, respectively).
Step 5: Onwards referral to hospital – The urgent 2-week referral pathway from primary care to hospital is an important indicator of suspect cancer presentations in primary care and is reliably captured in national monitoring statistics.
Figure 1 shows the distribution of indicator diseases by late presentation (CD4 <350 cells/mmc or an AIDS-defining event).
