We measured the percentage of fundoplication for the study population within hospitals to account for variability of indication for the procedure and institutional practices.
Other questions relevant to the association between cholecystectomy/gallstones and colorectal cancer provided information on the study participants' age, smoking history, height, weight, physical activity, aspirin use, menopausal status, postmenopausal hormone use, family history of colorectal cancer, and previous examination by colonoscopy or sigmoidoscopy and the indications of the procedure.
The association of increased patient discomfort with poor bowel preparation during and 1-hour post-colonoscopy was independent of the indication for the procedure and the total colonoscopy time (data not shown).
The types of fibroid removed from the patients who underwent myomectomy during cesarean delivery are shown in Table 2. Of the women who underwent myomectomy, the indication for the procedure in 86% of patients was either not noted or was identified as incidental.
Clinical indication for the procedure was a predictor of post-operative mortality.
