Our findings of increased used over time, especially for memantine (Namenda®), may be a result of the sample's worsening cognition and progression to a more severe stage of dementia rather than the impact of enhanced drug coverage through Medicare Part D. Medicare will need to rely on multiple strategies to achieve its goal of increased access to evidence-based care at the lowest cost.
