Sprinters increased shank-VA (Fig. 5H), and increases in thigh-VP, shank-VP, and foot-VP were almost the same in the middle acceleration section (Fig. 5J,K,L).
Increasing the shank offset from the furrow centre reduced the surface soil interaction with the vertical shank section operating in the furrow.
This hamstring stretch before the foot-strike has the potential to increase the shank backward velocity and propulsive impulse during the following support phase and thus increase the SL (Mero and Komi, 1987).
Loane Sharp points out that while mine production between 1990 and 2012 increased, the labour force shank from 1.2 million to 514,000 - the result of mechanisation.
The mean contribution of the shank to the running speed during the anterior support phase (shank-VA) increased with the number of steps, reaching a maximal value at the 25th step (5.79±0.44 m·s−1) (Fig. 5H).

The only variable that was correlated significantly with the criterion variable was shank length (Table 2); as shank length decreased, the RMI during the active-instructed condition increased.
The fused image, i.e. superposed PET and CT whole body images, shows metabolic activation of the left lateral shank while at the same time the right ankle also shows increased metabolic activity.
The prosthetic side knee joint showed significantly increased flexion and moment during loading response to facilitate the anterior rotation of the prosthetic shank.
