According to the Hueter-Volkmann law, we hypothesized that this aberrant pressure would lead to decreased growth of the dorsal scapula and increased growth of the ventral scapula.
Lateral rotation of the scapula increased linearly during AF, and was higher for the affected shoulders.
Lateral rotation of the scapula increased exponentially during AB for both the affected shoulders and the control shoulders.
It has been proposed that as the kyphosis increases the scapulae become more protracted and downwardly rotated leading to a potential compression under the acromion and the subacromial tissues included the subacromial bursa and rotator cuff[ 11, 13, 15- 20].
During AF, scapula protraction increased hyperbolically (Table 3 and Figure 4).
For scapular orientation in rest position, only an increased protraction of the scapula on the affected shoulder could be demonstrated, which was not related to clavicular shortening.
According to the Hueter-Volkmann law, subluxation should result in decrease of growth of the dorsal length of the scapula (by increased dorsal pressure) and increase of the ventral length (decreased pressure).
In the patient with the classic forward head, rounded shoulders, and increased thoracic kyphosis, the scapula rotates forward and downward, depressing the acromial process and changing the direction of the glenoid fossa.
Some authors reported that, when compared with the non-impaired side or to healthy people, the shoulders with impingement have shown, during arm elevation, significantly less posterior tilting [ 2- 4, 6], as well as significant reduction of lateral rotation [ 3, 4], and increased protraction of the scapula under a loading condition [ 4].
