Application of 2.82 t ha−1 compost or 1.07 t ha−1 farmyard manure (FYM) along with 18 10 kg ha−1 N P gave 4234 4443 kg ha−1 grain yield with 15 17 and 32 39% increase over sole organic amendments and control, respectively, and 757% economic benefit.
It is interesting to note that, in these literatures, adjusting the C/N ratio of fermentation system to the same level (20/1) with different kinds of external carbohydrate substrates led to enormous variations in acid production promoting effects (12 times increase over sole sludge with perennial ryegrass, but only 1.4 times with bagasse) [ 19, 20].
Generally, the seed weight per plant, 100-seed weight, number of seeds per cob, and grain yield increased under sole application of agricultural wastes or in combination with NPK as compared with the unamended (control) plot (Tables 3 and 4).
