These data are in accordance with those reported in macrophages and osteoclasts, showing that addition of 1 mmol/l magnesium did not increase the internalization of a fluorescent analogue of alendronate [ 12].
Therefore, it is conceivable that the endocytic activity of LRP1 might contribute to the appearance of plaques by increasing the internalization of Aβ, with a consequent decrease in neuronal function and viability and release of amyloid seeds into the brain parenchyma.
