The price of light crude fell $4.02 to $132.66 a barrel following the fuel price increase announcement.
"There are plenty of reasons to expect inflation to pick up further in the next few months," Brian Jackson, an analyst at the Royal Bank of Canada in Hong Kong, wrote in a note after the rate increase announcement Tuesday.
Ramsay Dunning, group general manager at Co-operative Energy, said: "As we stated in our recent price increase announcement, there were a number of factors that were out of our control, including costs associated with buying energy and getting it into people's homes, that we reluctantly had to pass on to our customers by raising prices.
Nonetheless, despite the modest size of the wage increase, the announcement does address a real problem: the trap in which many working-class women try to support themselves, and often children, in traditionally underpaid jobs.
The research approach that has been followed so far, to the extent it was able to be reviewed, is the selection of a specific type of event, like an increased dividends announcement or a merger announcement.
"At a minimum when an increased threat announcement is made, there should be some solution offered of what a family can do to protect themselves," he said.
For instance, in an increased earnings announcement, there may be just a few people who might exploit their access to privileged information.
To increase male participation, announcements were made during conference sessions to remind males of the opportunity to share their opinions.
But as the numbers of announcements increased, they became gloomier.
These complexities may only increase with the announcement on Wednesday that the Justice Department had filed a civil antitrust action against major book publishers and Apple, accusing the companies of colluding in 2010 to raise the prices of e-books.
