Longevity estimates for sharks are generally derived from von Bertalanffy Growth Function (VBGF) parameter estimates (i.e. growth constant); however, VBGF parameter estimates can be heavily affected by low sample sizes, incomplete sampling among size classes and/or difficulties associated with age estimation of large individuals (Goldman, 2004; Francis et al., 2007).
The whole set of accessions was sown in November 2004 in Foradada Spainn, 41°39'N, 01°29'E) following an augmented cyclical design with an incomplete block size of 60.
Some limitations of the study are the incomplete sample size for comparative biomarkers (i.e., CRP), the lack of data on long-term mortality, and the limited number of patients in the validation cohort.
Mean weaning weight between the two regimes was not significantly different (mean sardine period = 129 ± 8.2 kg vs mean anchovy period = 127.6 ± 2.3 kg) (t = 0.38, df = 23, P > 0.05) but this analysis is confounded by the declining slope of weaning mass over the course of the sardine regime and the small and incomplete sample size for the anchovy regime.
The result of such socially desirable reporting could be the incomplete effect sizes observed in our statistical models.
