"There is a difference between people who get involved in what you would call incidental violence as a result of a political protest.
Scenes of casual, almost incidental violence begin to prick the relative calm, as when the sons stomp along a riverbank, forcing rats from their holes in order to shoot them because, as François (the gentler brother) explains, he hates them.
