An index (SI), greater than zero, specifies that the groundwater being supersaturated with respect to the particular mineral phase and therefore incapable of dissolving more of the mineral.
Carbonate minerals are supersaturated in the aquifers and incapable of dissolving more of minerals as the values of SI are greater than 0 in all the samples.
Values above zero indicate super saturation with respect to the particular mineral phase and incapable of dissolving more of the mineral and water discharging from an aquifer containing sufficient amount of the mineral species with longer residence time to reach equilibrium in the case of groundwater (Ako et al. 2011).
The SI < 0 indicates that the groundwater is undersaturated (dissolution) with respect to that particular mineral, while the SI > 0 specifies that the groundwater being supersaturated (precipitation) with respect to the particular mineral phase and therefore incapable of dissolving more mineral phase (Barzegar et al. 2015).
In industrial processes, water, a polar solvent, is often incapable of dissolving a large number of substances, and therefore organic liquids are used.
