All-cause mortality at 4 weeks was not significantly different between the appropriate empirical therapy group (9 cases) and the inappropriate group (20 cases) in this study.
Knowledge of assignment could lead to the exclusion of certain patients depending on their prognosis because they could have been allocated to the perceived inappropriate group.
