Use this as a great in-class project (cross teaching) "art-math-art" assignment or for your students to take home as a project for extra credit outside math class.
The in-class research projects spanned 10 wk, filling one 4-h laboratory session each week.
We recognize that exams are not the sum total of assessments in an introductory science course—homework assignments, in-class work, projects, and lab reports are also a substantial part of assessment and present significant learning opportunities for students.

Successful examples include case studies of in-class student led survey projects with Japanese students (Tomei, Glick, & Holst, 1999), projects focusing on all four skill areas in Thai universities (Poonpon, 2011; Simpson, 2011) and projects incorporating technology in a Malaysian university (Thang, Lin, Mahmud, Ismail, & Zabidi, 2014).
For example, just one company – Atkins, the civil engineering to design group that is involved in world-class projects from Crossrail to the ITER fusion reactor in France – will need 10,000 engineers over the next few years.
To collect the data for this case study, the instructor of this course documented all of in-class activities, assignments, final project, in-class communications of the students with the instructor, and their comments submitted at the end of semester.
This grade was calculated based on the students' class attendance (10%), assignments (30%; weekly journals, in-class activities), and final project (60%; 3D modeling files, 3D printed output, written report of 3D design process).
Each group had an in-class presentation of the project the last day of class.
