"It makes enormous sense in terms of residential redevelopment," Mr. Ferrer said.
The Mayor has an aggressive agenda and needs someone to examine a few critical areas in terms of downtown redevelopment.
Helped also by an aggressive posture in terms of economic redevelopment by the McGreevey administration, the city has been the beneficiary of a $175 rebuilding fund, on top of the more than $400 million it receives every year in governmental subsidies.
This increase is advantageous for the future in terms of economic redevelopment and better employee engagement.
"None of this can be implemented unless everyone is on the same page in terms of the zoning, redevelopment and economic development objectives," Mr. Aliano said.
Portantino, a former mayor of La Cañada and member of its City Council, said cities such as Burbank, Glendale and others throughout the San Gabriel Valley were the "good actors" in terms of tapping the powers of redevelopment.
"In terms of a Stanley Park stadium versus redevelopment, there is absolutely no question that a refurbishment of Anfield would come at a significantly lower cost than a new build.
