Unless there is visible change addressing the humanitarian situation in Gaza and a more constructive position is adopted in relation to making peace with Syria, it is highly unlikely that the quality of the bilateral relationship with Israel will improve.
"I have passed I hope many tests over the course of the last 20-odd years in relation to the peace process and intend to continue to work forward in a very sensible and reasoned way with political colleagues in the Executive, " said Mr McGuinness.
"I am concerned that the more settlements there are the more the growth of settlements can become a problem in relation to" the peace process, he said.
"I also want to talk about what we see as some of the barriers and some of the difficulties, like the illegal settlements, in relation to that peace process," she said.
They represent different contexts that have influenced different interpretations of faith in relation to conflict and peace.
Compared to 40, or even just 20 years ago, the context of our discussion on faith in relation to justice and peace has a greater emphasis on globalisation and global issues.
She wrote in her resignation letter: "My view has been that our policy in relation to the Middle East peace process generally but more recently our approach and language during the current crisis in Gaza is morally indefensible, is not in Britain's national interest and will have a long-term detrimental impact on our reputation internationally and domestically".
Recently, you said: "I am actively keeping under consideration, on a continuous basis, the question of whether recognition by Ireland in the near future of a state of Palestine might be a helpful step in relation to the Middle East peace process".
He added: "I don't think I would have been invited to the Oval Office on three occasions to meet with three American presidents, or to Johannesburg to meet with Nelson Mandela, or to Brussels to meet with the president of the European Union, and indeed many other countries throughout the world, if people thought that my credentials in relation to the search for peace were in any way in doubt".
