In ramets developed from genotype G, there were no differences in this parameter between the three preparative (p>0.05, Fig. 4e).
For example, in ramets characterized by two branches with a single fused tip, initial growth trajectories developed morphologies along a single plane, creating, during the first step of astogeny (sensu [31]), a 2-D fan like colonial structure, without affecting total ecological volume or branch spacing (Fig. 5).
Univariate analyses for experimental settings (first set of experiments) further revealed that percentages of tip-born branches (%TBB) were lower in setting I (single tip) compared to settings II (initial dichotomous tip) and III (dichotomous tip), an outcome expressed in ramets of all four studied genets (ANOVA; p<0.05, Fig. 4a).

The variation in ramet number was difficult to avoid given that we attempted to collect swards containing stem densities that were representative of the natural marsh without damaging the plants during the collection process.
