Other opportunities to study convergence or parallelism in Mollusca occur within classes, such as Gastropoda.
For example, we observed the first DIRS1-like elements in Mollusca (Aplysia californica and Lottia gigantea).
Its gene order may represent the pleisomorphic gene arrangement in Mollusca.
Extensive gene rearrangements have been observed in Mollusca [ 5], Nematoda [ 18], and some arthropod lineages such as hemipteroid insects [ 19, 20] and several parasitic groups [ 20- 23].
Most of the reelin sequences that were identified belong to the phylum Chordata, although few homologues could be identified in Mollusca and Arthropoda.
The failure to detect monophyletic Bivalvia probably best demonstrates the limits of 18S analyses in Mollusca using contemporary methods [see also [ 19, 22, 41]].

Mytilopsis sallei, Mytilus galloprovincialis, Perna viridis in the Mollusca, Hydroides elegans and Hydroides dianthus in the Annelida, and Balanus amphitrite and Balanus eburneus in the Arthropoda have had a highly detrimental effect on oyster aquaculture.
Searching with HMMs of both these versions of EF-Tu show that these duplicates are also present in Annelida, Mollusca and Arthropoda, suggesting this duplication occurred in the lineage to protostomia.
For the other bilaterians included in the data set much lower numbers of lineage-specific losses were observed, that is, 23 in L. gigantea (Mollusca), 36 in H. robusta (Annelida), 99 in S. mediterranea (Turbellaria), 110 in C. elegans (Nematoda), 46 in D aphnia pulex (Arthropoda), and 8 in H omo sapiens (Chordata).
As there is a re-inversion in some gastropods, we cannot exclude that this inversion took place independently two or three times in Phoronida, Mollusca and Entoprocta.
