Prominent, proposed IBS-risk genes from Table 1 are also reported, by positioning them based on the (most likely) mechanistic involvement in the mentioned pathways.
In this report we investigated the genetic variability of 67 key genes in the above mentioned pathways.
On the other hand, we found some genes that might play important roles in the above mentioned pathways.
They were therefore not considered in the analysis, which allowed us to cover 84% of the enzymatic activities located in the above mentioned pathways.
Literature reports a number of microRNAs, mainly miR-21, miR-155, miR-146a, miR-223 to be important regulators of the protein coding genes involved in the above mentioned pathways [ 60], [ 61], [ 63].
The changes in the above mentioned pathways are reciprocal to those previously associated with obesity (Dahlman et al, 2005; Mutch et al, 2009) and similar to the changes observed when obese subjects experienced weight reduction (Henegar et al, 2008; Kolehmainen et al, 2008).
However, the involvement of the above mentioned pathways in TRD mediated cell death has to be addressed in further studies.
As illustrated in Figure 3, the SIG method showed the highest PES values for all the mentioned pathways in the two data sets.
It is interesting that only six and ten out of 25 top mentioned pathways in the respective abstract and full-text corpora already appeared in the AlzPathway database.
Although SCAT has been associated with blood pressure and, in fact, the above mentioned pathways are strongly related to endothelial dysfunction [ 4], the significance was lost after the adjustments.
