In line with this notion sequence identity of structural genes between P. × canescens, a species from the oldest section Leuce and P. trichocarpa, which is member of the relatively young Tacamahaca section [ 32], was not significantly different from that between P. euphratica in the section Turanga, which assumes a phylogenetically intermediate position, and P. trichocarpa.
Therefore, GAG seems not to be used as an alternative acceptor for AS in P. patens in most cases, which is in line with the sequence logos.
This suggests the presence of chimeric genome sectors, which may explain the higher percentage of Col-like revertants compared to svt2 M 2 K1 Col R. Note that the PCR results are in line with the sequencing analysis of the revertants.
In line with this difference, previously published sequence comparisons indicated a quite distant relationship between arsenite oxidase and arsenate reductase with respect to their Molybdopterin-subunits [ 7, 8, 18].
In line with this finding, cloning and sequencing of PCR fragments from the U87/NHEJ-red cells showed a similar correlation between PsiI digestion and DNA sequence analysis (data not shown).
