We further tested whether accurate typing of HPV could be realized in different template concentrations by varying template copy numbers.
This might be due to preferential amplification of individual amplicons by the ITS-assay, depending on PCR conditions and primer mismatch, in samples where different templates are present; a phenomenon which is described in 16S rRNA gene-targeting bacterial community analysis [ 28].
