Viacom, the parent company of MTV, is known for its in-depth audience research and for matching that research with marketers' needs.
"U.S. viewers have clearly demonstrated that they like the way Al Jazeera provides compelling, in-depth news to audiences across the world," said Al Jazeera's director general, Ahmed bin Jassim Al Thani, in a statement.
"A lot of the audience wants in-depth journalism," he said, adding that because its owner isn't concerned primarily with profits and losses, Al Jazeera America won't feel pressure to go after sensationalistic stories in the hopes of driving ratings.
Students are a natural (and the future) audience for serious, in-depth reporting.
"I was a community journalist interested in investigative and in-depth coverage to help a local audience," Bruce explained.
Opening up the in-depth race content to a broader audience would only increase interest, they said.
The PSP's core content could also sit on broadband servers, supported by more in-depth, interactive content that leads the audience on from the programme itself to interaction with the issues and interests that the programme has raised.
"This class provides a chance for the audience to get an in-depth understanding of his full process.
He's articulating very in-depth and specific political concerns directly to his audience".
