Additionally, no change in Trp fluorescence was observed in control experiments in the absence of the CPM acceptor, indicating that any observed changes in CPM fluorescence would be primarily due to changes in FRET efficiency rather than changes in the local environment of the Trp probe.
This finding was in line with two recent CPM studies in TMD pain patients where no significant difference in CPM was found between the patients and controls [15, 30].
