Patients with histologically proven, locally advanced intra-thoracic (n=81) or cervical (n=13) oesophageal squamous cell cancer, without distant metastases (uT3, uN0/+, cM0), who were considered medically fit for surgery were treated with neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy (Brücher et al, 2004) in consecutive phase II trials between 1999 and 2004, followed by oesophagectomy.
