Between starting and finishing an MBA, Europeans can expect to improve their earnings by 118%, he says.
Other companies are likely to look at G.M. as a model and bolster their depleted pension funds by issuing bonds, and improve their earnings as a result.
"Mothers of young children who return to work for very little financial gain may do so to maintain their long-term ability to improve their earnings," says David Finch, of thinktank the Resolution Foundation.
The recipients said they thought that the requirement to work was reasonable, that they wanted to educate themselves and that they were optimistic about their chances to improve their earnings.
The report from the Resolution Foundation, an independent thinktank, shows that of the 4.7 million workers who were low-paid in 2002, 1.3 million (27% of the total) didn't improve their earnings at any point during the decade and that a further 2.2 million (46%) moved in and out of low pay but had failed to escape it for good by the end of the decade.
The companies improved their earnings despite rising costs and lower output of oil and natural gas.
Their reliability had improved with issuance of credible Country of Origin (COA) for the fishes shipped and it was possible for them to improve their earnings by using the statistics showing them accurate sales volumes and profits.
Some research also suggests that employees who earn the lowest wages and whose working conditions are poor are generally less able to negotiate better working conditions for themselves (Dex and Smith, 2001) and are actually more likely to return to benefits than to improve their earnings (Dickens 2000b).
To improve their earnings power, Thomas expects the European banks to reduce balance sheets by collateralizing their loan obligations – bundling them and selling them in the form of securities to investors – and by reducing fresh corporate lending, a low-margin business.
