As compared with our archived data of 7935 patients treated in 1991 [ 1], though the proportions of each stage were similar, the direct death rate had significantly improved, dropping from 1.0 to 0.6% (P < 0.001); the proportion of patients aged more than 80 years old had increased, from 4.5 to 7.0% (P < 0.001); and the 5YSR of stage IV had improved, from 9.0 to 15.8% (P < 0.05).
